Study Politics in TCE - Introduction to Politics and Policy HSG100 Politics

This unit is offered statewide, flexibly via electronic delivery with at least one on-campus workshop to be held at Hobart, Launceston and Cradle Coast (students may also attend on campus lecture although this is neither necessary or compulsory).

This unit provides an introduction to contemporary issues and debates in Australian politics and is designed for Year 12 TCE students. It examines the Australian political system and compares it with other major liberal democracies such as the United States. It focuses on important policy and governance challenges confronting the Australian political system, especially in the aftermath of the historic 2010 Federal election. Theoretically the unit examines the nature of political power and how it is exercised in domestic politics.
