What is UPP?
Have you always dreamed about going to uni but didn't have the marks? Or have you been out of school for a while and would like to brush up on your academic skills before you start a degree?
If you are considering enrolling at UTAS but feel you may need additional skills, confidence and knowledge about university study before commencing a course, then the University Preparation Program (UPP) is for you.
UPP provides an alternative entry pathway into UTAS and it is free for eligible students.
UPP is designed particularly for:
- Mature age students
- Those who did not complete year 11 and 12
- Students enrolling in an associate degree
- Students enrolled in a degree who are struggling
What does UPP aim to do?
The course aims to prepare students with the necessary skills to successfully complete university study. It also aims to build students' confidence to succeed at their dreams for study and to enhance the quality of their initial experience of university life.
What does UPP offer?
UPP offers a broad range of subjects designed to ensure students have the skills critical to success at UTAS. Units are offered in both first and second semester with each semester involving 13 weeks of study to complete the unit. Students may choose a maximum of 4 units each semester.
UPP offers the following units:
UPP070 Preliminary Academic Activities
UPP091 Numeracy for Tertiary Studies
Units may be offered face-to-face or by distance, depending on your campus. Please check the Information Booklet (PDF 540KB) for details.
Please note: units may not run if the minimum level of 15 students enrolled is not reached.
HELP Sessions
All students enrolled in UPP receive additional support through weekly HELP sessions on each campus. These sessions are available to both distance and on campus students.
The delivery of HELP sessions is through the units UPP001 Supported Studies 1 (Semester 1) and UPP002 Supported Studies 2 (Semester 2). These are support units only and do not include any assessment. The units will be automatically added to your enrolment at the start of the semester
