Welcome to the School of Visual & Performing Arts. We specialise in Visual Arts and Performing Arts, and offer a full range of courses right up to PhD within these two disciplines. Our undergraduate and postgraduate programs are structured so that you can concentrate on one discipline, or take advantage of the exciting cross-disciplinary opportunities between visual arts and theatre.
We are housed in the Academy of the Arts, an award winning, world-class facility located in the busy 17-hectare cultural precinct of Inveresk, the northern part of Launceston. The School of Visual & Performing Arts comprises visual arts studios, galleries, performance spaces, and a theatre. The Academy also houses the art courses of Tasmanian Polytechnic, and our neighbours in the Inveresk Cultural Precint are the University’s School of Architecture & Design, and the Queen Victorian Museum and Art Gallery, which has a rich collection.
The Academy of the Arts facilities are modern, comfortable, spacious and well-equipped, with provision for after-hours use of specialist areas. Our teaching staff are all professionals in their field, committed to providing you with challenging, innovative and rewarding study programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
