What would you do for love? How far would you go for love? How far is too far? What if love demanded the ultimate sacrifice? Inspired by Euripides’ Greek tragedy Iphigenia at Aulis, Love Me Tender explores the extreme and all consuming nature of love. It examines the sacrifice and duty that love demands and explores the fine line between man and animal. At the end of the day, are we all just animals on a pre-determined path, unable to escape destiny?
In the aftermath of the Black Friday Bushfires, five characters gather to tease out the story of a father and his daughter. The audience is taken on a roller coaster ride as the bonds between father and daughter are questioned and judged. The pace is relentless; there is no time to think. You have no choice but to journey with the characters as they tell a story that culminates in a father being faced with a heart-wrenching moral dilemma.
Love Me Tender forces us to examine our own beliefs about family and community, relationships and sacrifice, sexuality and fear. It bold and beautiful and not for the faint hearted.
