I've always been fascinated with your wildlife and in particular the Tasmanian Devil, but in Spain, 95% of the imagery and characteristics of the Tassie Devil was conveyed by the famous American cartoon. So I decided to make something more "serious": to show the special and strong connection between Tasmanian citizens and their iconic emblem.
I have captured portraits of everyday Tasmanians and have attempted to transpose these individuals' unique characteristics into my Tasmanian Devil sculptures. This transmission of unique human traits onto and within each individual devil, highlights the interconnected relationship that Tasmanians have with their devils, and that by taking care of the Tasmanian Devil is ultimately taking of care of themselves.
