In late 2011 the management of NEW Gallery was transferred to the School of Visual and Performing Arts (SVPA). The SVPA operates the Academy Gallery and for the best use of expertise and equipment it was determined the custodianship of NEW Gallery be relocated to the SVPA.
So what have we been doing in the past two months? The NEW Gallery office and storerooms have been tidied, cleaned and sorted – a hot water system and sink fitted for exhibition openings, OH&S ladders and trolleys to install artwork purchased, excess equipment at the Academy Gallery including 15 large glass cabinets to display artworks have been relocated to NEW. A NEW Gallery Advisory Board, Volunteer Club and Friends of the Gallery have been established. An exhibition program has been scheduled – not all spaces have been filled for 2012… Malcom is in liaison with sponsors, with Boag’s Brewery and Harvey Norman already agreeing to assist in 2012. Oh and we have installed a glass window in the office door so you can see when Malcom is on site – however I tend to leave the door open so please call in and say hello…
In late January into February 2012 NEW Gallery will exhibit a group exhibition curated by Head of Photo Media, Newstead College, Scott Cunningham. The exhibition will include photography, paintings and multi media by SVPA alumni and showcase the high quality of artwork produced by the University of Tasmania MCA Program.
Dianne Nailon will in March curate with the Northern Children's Network (NCN) the Children's Voices in Art Exhibition. This exhibition is presented in partnership with the Faculty of Education. In Gallery 2 (that’s the gallery your standing in) Malcom will as part of the University celebration of Harmony Day curate an international student art exhibition.
