Contemporary Textiles 1st year showcase 2011
untitled by Scott Johnston
Exploration of the Textiles Studio encourages students to work innovatively with a range of tactile media: stuff, twist, knot and construct for an investigation into two and three-dimensional studies. Printing, weaving, stitching and the manipulation of fabric will impart technical skills, experimentation with these skills will stimulate thought about how textiles may be applied to contemporary art practice.
Students will experience working with a variety of interpretations of the Textiles Arts from experimental installation and soft sculpture to costume and applied design. Students may specialise in any one or a combination of these areas. Cross-disciplinary work is supported with a strong emphasis on giving form to an idea.
