Tasmanian College of the Arts (Inveresk) will be offering an extension program for selected gifted and high achieving students studying visual arts, drama or theatre performance at pre-tertiary (5C) level in Year 11 or 12, or who are participating in major College Productions or Theatre Performances including conventional theatre, performance art and hybrid arts throughout the year.
This means that if you are selected, you will be able to become enrolled as a UTAS student while you’re still in college, and the visual and performing art subjects you are currently studying can count towards our University degree.
To participate you need to be studying pre-tertiary subjects in one of the following visual and performing arts areas:
Successful applicants will gain two Level 100 units (25% of your first year at UTAS) and will achieve accelerated progress through the Bachelor of Contemporary Art degree (BCA). You won’t need to pay any additional fees to do this, so you will save $1300* in HECS/HELP fees during your first year of University study.
*If you are an international student and want to participate, you’ll need to pay normal fees to the University. The cost of 2 x 12.5% units is around $3,375.
Successful completion of the University College Program requires you to achieve a result of CA – Commendable Achievement or higher in your TCE result, along with the successful participation in the UTAS Colloquium (conference) and completion of two supplementary University projects. You will be able to choose from a range of projects that best suits your creativity.
Students enrolled in the University College program will be sent an information package outlining the brief for the SVPA College Colloquium that will be held in September, 2009. This package will include information on the colloquium theme and set out a range of optional tasks as preparation.
The Colloquium (1 – Day Conference)
You will be asked to actively participate in your discipline group, working in both a team and individual contexts. You will be evaluated by University staff on your level of contribution to the Colloquium program and will be given either a satisfactory or non- satisfactory result that will be measured on a set of competencies we devise for this activity
Supplementary Projects
Over the year you will be asked to do two relatively small projects that will be evaluated by a set of competencies devised for this activity by the University School of Visual and Performing Arts staff.
Non-TCE Subjects
Students in this category, your projects will be evaluated on the basis of the level 100 University assessment criteria and a set of competencies devised by the University School of Visual and Performing Arts.
If you are undertaking a pre-tertiary subject in the arts in 2009 you may apply for entry into the University College Program. Please talk with your parents first to seek their approval for you to participate.
If you enrol in the University College Program and do not participate in the colloquium or satisfactorily undertake the additional tasks, you can withdraw without academic penalty.
If you are a student in year 11 and 12 and are interested in the Program you will need to:
UTAS will provide enrolment forms to each college participating in this program. You will need to fill in the form and have your parents sign their consent for you to participate. Once enrolled, you will receive an information pack with all the details you need.
