Reduce Image Dimensions in Photoshop 8

These notes are based on Photoshop 8 on PC and are intended as a basic guide, and do not contain optimised images themselves, as they are designed to be used on campus by UTAS staff. Open your image:

  1. Reduce by eye: Select > All, then Edit > Free Transform. Drag a corner in with the cursor, or change the size in the top panel. Hit 'Entre' to commit to the size change.
  1. Change by values: Select Image > Image Size... Change the dimensions, in this case the setting is Pixels. The proportions will be constrained unless unlocked (click on the chain on the right)
modify image size from menu

To see how much you have reduced the download speed of your page by optimising images, send your page to your live site and get an analysis of your page speed from the Web Page Analyzer.
