This page contains important information for students who have been offered a place in the Associate Degree in Dementia Care (AssocDegDemCare).
What happens now that I have been offered a place in the Associate Degree in Dementia Care?
Please be sure to read both pages of your Letter of Offer.
Please sign and return your Acceptance of Offer form. Once we have received it we will email and/or post you your UTAS username and password. Please allow 10 working days from the time you have posted your signed and dated Acceptance of Offer form to us. Please contact the Student Centre by email student.centre@utas.edu.au or phone 1300 361 928 if you have not received your UTAS log-in details within 10 working days.
Then, you will need to enrol in the AssocDegDemCare. Using your username and password you can manage your own enrolment through the eStudentCentre. Please refer to the eStudentCentre Tour for information about how to access it and how to enrol in the units you will study.
Enrolment is done online through the eStudentCentre, and involves two steps:
- Enrolment in the Units you will study, and
- Completion of 2 Commonwealth Assistance Forms (eCAF).
Step 1
Once you have received your UTAS username and password, you will be able to access the eStudent Centre. A step-by-step guide to accessing the eStudentCentre and how to enrol can be found at eStudentCentre Tour.
At this time, you will only be able to enrol in the two units being offered in 2012 (Semester 5). Please enrol in both of these units.
- CAD001 Using Emerging Technology and Learning Online as applied to Aged Care Studies
- CAD003 Introduction to General Studies in Dementia in Australia
On-line enrolments for 2013 will open in late November 2012.
Step 2
Once you have enrolled in the Units you will study, you MUST complete two Electronic Commonwealth Assistance Forms (eCAF) online. One form is completed to acknowledge that you will accept the Commonwealth Supported Place that has been offered; if you do not indicate that you are accepting this place, your enrolment will be cancelled. This eCAF must be completed by all applicants including those receiving a HECS fee waiver or Scholarship. The second eCAF relates to the Student Services and Amenities Fees.
How is the Associate Degree organised?
The first 4 units in the AssocDegDemCare are offered in attending mode – at the time of enrolment, please select the campus most convenient for you to attend classes based on your current location or the attendance dates that suit you best. Details of the dates offered at each campus can be found on the Classes page.
The remainder of the AssocDegDemCare will be offered in distance mode using the UTAS online learning facility called MyLO (My Learning Online). Information about accessing the MyLO web pages, and using MyLO, can be found at Learning and Teaching with MyLO. There may be some optional attendance days at the beginning of each unit in either Hobart (Tasmania) or Rozelle (NSW). When you enrol in these units you will need to select which campus you would like to attend if you choose to attend those days.
The AssocDegDemCare is offered part-time only, over 3 semesters per year. Ideally you will enrol in 2 units per semester, totalling 6 units per year. You will need to pass 16 units to complete the AssocDegDemCare. Please refer to the Course Program for more details about the unit schedule.
Before Teaching Starts
Once you have enrolled, you will receive information by email and/or post with details about your first units. Before your first class, please log in to MyLO to check whether there is anything the lecturer would like you to prepare in advance.
Suggestion for UniStart
UniStart is a free-of-charge program offered before semester 1 and 2 of 2013 that aims to help you develop the essential skills required for independent learning and success at University, such as critical thinking, critical reading and academic writing. It consists of:

- Access to online resources throughout the year, and
- Workshops and individual learning skills consultations available throughout the year to support your learning.
If you are commencing your studies in November 2012 you do not need to enrol in UniStart, as aspects of the program will be covered in your first units of study.
If you are commencing your studies in Semester 1 or 2 of 2013, please feel welcome to enrol in UniStart when you are enrolling the Units you will study in the Associate Degree in Dementia Care. You are able to enrol in UniStart (unit code X0A00) through the eStudentCentre.
