If you can find time to read about this innovative iRemember Community Project, we hope you are moved to support it through a donation. The Wicking Centre endeavours to dispel the stigma of dementia and to enable opportunities of self-worth for people with dementia and their carers. This project will do just that, as we team up with the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Alzheimer's Australia Tasmania to consult people with dementia in the community to develop memory cases that will be a valuable resource ultimately benefitting the whole community. We personally and professionally support this project and we hope you can support this appeal too.
Wicking 2012 iRemember Community Project
In partnership with the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, our Wicking Centre researchers are carrying out an innovative new community-based research project, consulting people with dementia and their carers using reminiscence therapy.
A trial iRemember memory case has been put together, containing artefacts from 'In the kitchen' from the 1930s to the 1970s. It's designed to take you down memory lane through touch, sight, sound, and smell, with the intention of promoting communication and, we hope, improve well-being.
Would you like to support this innovative community project? We're already ahead of the game, with the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery having developed the iRemember cases concept. The cost of the project is estimated to be $30,000. This will enable a Project Officer to work with Alzheimer's Australia Tasmania to test the value of these cases in the community. Feedback from consultations with people with dementia and their carers will give us information about what they enjoy seeing or smelling again, what they talk about and what memories are triggered by the objects. The case's contents will be refined and two or three more iRemember cases will be developed, alongside supporting educational materials, for the benefit of people with dementia and their carers.

The great bonus is that these iRemember cases will be available for loan from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery from 2013 – a free community resource for the benefit and enjoyment of people with dementia and their carers in to the future.
