The 2019 Rhonda Ewart Honours Scholarship in Dementia Care was awarded this week to honours student, Nina Daniels.  This scholarship was established in 2015 by Rhonda Ewart to provide an annual honours scholarship, in perpetuity, to be awarded to a student undertaking Honours in Dementia Care with the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre.Nina is doing Honours in Medical Research with supervisors Dr Jessica Collins and Associate Professor Anna King. She undertook a 3rd year biochemistry project with Dr Collins during her undergraduate degree before starting Honours with the Wicking Dementia Centre this year. Her project is focusing on axon pathology in different molecular subtypes of Frontotemporal lobar degeneration which causes the clinical disease Frontotemporal Dementia.A University of Tasmania staff member, Rhonda Ewart experienced first-hand the effects of dementia when her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
