Biography
Dr Adele Woodhouse completed a BSc (Hons) in anatomy and physiology at the University of Tasmania in 2003 and her PhD at the Menzies Research Institute Tasmania in 2007. She was awarded an NHMRC overseas postdoctoral training fellowship in 2009 to work in the Neurobiology of Ionic Channels INSERM laboratory (UMR641) in Marseille, France. Dr Woodhouse was awarded a Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale postdoctoral fellowship (2011-2012) to continue her projects in France. She has now returned to the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre at the University of Tasmania to complete the Australian part of the NHMRC fellowship.
Research Interests
Dr Woodhouse is interested in how neurons regulate their activity in health and how this process is altered in disease. How neurons maintain and regulate their activity over the lifetime of an animal remains largely unknown. Increasing our knowledge of these fundamental principles will provide important information on how neurons maintain appropriate activity levels in healthy ageing and how this changes in neurological diseases and disorders. Her research is focused on the cellular changes that occur in healthy ageing and in the progression of Alzheimer's disease in transgenic mouse models and human tissue.
