Biography
Brigit is a registered nurse with a background in day surgery and post anaesthesia care, and is a Research Fellow with the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre. Her research experience lies in improving the delivery of care for older adults through participatory action research (PAR). Brigit employed a PAR approach in her doctoral research collaborating with a group of registered nurses in an acute care setting to implement best evidence practice change and improvement for people aged over 65. Her thesis, Developing Nursing Practice to Meet the Needs of Older Adults in an Australian Day Procedure Unit – An Action Research Study, examines the processes of change.
As a project officer in the Wicking Centre, Brigit employs a PAR approach in collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals and staff across the community, acute, and residential aged care sectors to improve the provision of care for older people with dementia and their family carers. She also works with nursing and care staff to enhance healthcare students' experiences of residential aged care. Brigit has tutored in CNA309 (Professional Issues in Nursing Practice) and CNA246 (Perspectives on Ageing) at the UTAS School of Nursing and Midwifery.
