Axon initial segment alterations in Alzheimer’s disease
This project will investigate whether AIS alterations (including location, length and disassembly) occur in end-stage and early (or preclinical) human Alzheimer’s disease cases in comparison to healthy aged human cases using immunohistochemistry techniques. Specifically we will investigate whether AIS alterations occur in preclinical and end stage human Alzheimer’s disease cases in:
- Neurons located close to beta-amyloid plaques
- Neurons distant to beta-amyloid plaques
- Neurons that contain neurofibrillary tangles
