Development of curriculum content for a clinical placement in the palliative care of people with dementia
With an increasing amount of work in residential aged care involving end-of-life care and residents with dementia there is great need to develop knowledge and understanding of these issues amongst the health workforce. This project involves the development and evaluation of a dementia palliation curriculum for nursing, medical and paramedic students within the context of the Wicking Teaching Aged Care Facilities program.
The project involves developing a nursing, medical and paramedic dementia palliation clinical placement curriculum, clinical placement model and evaluation methodology. These resources will be made available to nursing and medical schools across Australia. An additional component of the project is providing education to GPs who mentor medical students and aged care staff who support nursing students undertaking clinical placements in RACFs.
