The provision of first aid facilities and the training of First Aid Officers to assist anyone who suffers an injury or illness in the workplace is an essential part of WHS management.
The Organisational Unit also needs to provide first aid coverage for those who are required to undertake field or remote work which is not easily accessible to emergency medical facilities.
The First Aid in the Workplace Procedure (PDF 161.6KB) and the First Aid Minimum Standard (PDF 154.0KB) is available for further information. The form for appointing a Designated First Aid Officer is also available. Currently the Organisational Unit makes their own arrangements for the provision of first aid training and kits. You can book training online via two well know providers:
- Australian Red Cross at Redcross training
- St John Ambulance at St John.
The First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice provides information to identify the number of first aid kits, their contents and the number of trained first aiders required in your workplace.List of University of Tasmania Designated First-Aiders August 2014
