The University of Tasmania has collaborated with the Department of Health to launch a new leadership program for nurses and midwives.

Recently, 26 nurses and midwives from across Tasmania commenced as the inaugural cohort of participants in a new leadership program – the Nursing and Midwifery Mid-Career Leadership pilot program.

The co-design and development of the course was led by Associate Professor Melanie Greenwood, from the University’s School of Nursing with support from Dr Kathryn Terry.

The custom-designed program has been created specifically to support nurses and midwives to unlock their leadership potential working in healthcare systems.

The program is delivered using a blended approach of online modules and face-to-face residential intensives to complement and consolidate learnings with leadership experts in health care.

Following the pilot program, the mid-career leadership program will be run twice a year, providing a pathway to continue to invest in Tasmania’s future nursing and midwifery leaders.

The program has been designed to encourage, inspire and challenge participants to develop their leadership mindset, and is funded under the Department of Health’s Health Workforce 2040 Strategy.
