Explore your creativity and innovative thinking with Architecture & Design

With rapid changes in technology around the world, there is a demand for innovative, highly educated, ethically driven, sustainability-conscious and technically competent designers and architects.

Year 11 and 12 students from across Tasmania are invited to register for The University of Tasmania’s Design Day on Thursday the 5th of September in the Discipline of Architecture & Design’s award-winning building at the Inveresk in Launceston.

Student will participate in two distinctive workshops, sparking their imagination through hands-on model making, testing ideas to plan tomorrow’s cities and trying new digital design and fabrication technologies.

Complimentary lunch is provided. Students should bring their pencil case, water bottle and personal snacks.

Tiny House Design

How much space do you need to live in? Architecture & Design has been de-signing and building tiny houses for several years. Challenge your ingenuity to design and build your own model of a 3metre cube house.

Digital Design & Fabrication

How are advanced technologies changing the way we design and make things? In this activity, you will use the latest technologies to design, prototype, and produce an artefact in Architecture and Design’s digital fabrication workshops.

Utopian Island

Plan a sustainable future for a community living on an isolated island. Consider climate, environment and other factors to design a settlement, decide where to grow food, source water and generate energy.

Design Thinking

In this hands-on activity you’ll learn more about the ways design thinking can unlock creative solutions to the problems of tomorrow!

Getting there

The Architecture and Design Taster Day will be held at The University of Tasmania Inveresk Campus, Launceston.

Complimentary buses will depart from and return to Burnie, Devonport and Hobart. Please indicate if you need bus transport when you register below.

  Hobart Bus

  • 7am: Bus departs Hobart from Hotel Grand Chancellor
  • 10am: Bus arrives at Inversesk Campus
  • 3pm: Bus departs Inveresk Campus
  • 6pm: Bus returns to Hobart at Hotel Grand Chancellor

  Burnie/Devonport Bus

  • 8am: Bus leaves from Burnie Yacht Club, The Esplanade
  • 8.45am: Devonport pickup at Homemaker Centre, 2 Friend St
  • 10am: Bus arrives at Inversesk Campus
  • 3pm: Bus departs from Inveresk Campus
  • 4.15pm: Devonport drop-off at Homemaker Centre
  • 5pm: Bus returns to Burnie at Burnie Yacht Club
