Placement Program - Information for Students

How to apply

Pathway 1 – Student sourced placement

Step 1 - Check the eligibility criteria below

Step 2 – Attend a Career Connect information session on how to approach a business/organisation.

Step 3 – Register an EOI to enrol in KIT211/KIT511.

Step 4 - Identify a prospective placement provider (business or organisation)

Step 5 – Ask the business or organisation if they are willing to host you on a placement. You should provide them with a resume and cover letter. We hold information sessions on how to go about creating these (see Step 2). NOTE: You also need to provide the organisation with details about how the program is administered, available from here.

Step 6 – Any business/organisation willing to host a placement must submit a brief position description and selection criteria via the form here. We will arrange to contact the business/organisation to arrange a workplace inspection and an agreement to host.

Step 7 – The business/organisation signs a formal agreement with UTAS to host your placement. You sign a student placement agreement.

Step 8 – You attend your placement as agreed with the business/organisation.

Pathway 2 – School sourced placement. Note - numbers are strictly limited.

Step 2 – Attend a Career Connect information session on how to approach a business/organisation.

Step 3 - Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) application. EOI applicants will receive a submission notification email.

Step 4 - Eligible students are provided with a list of the available placement positions and selection criteria.

Step 5 - Students select up to 3 placements to apply for. Each application will consist of:

  • Resume
  • Cover letter
  • Responses to Selection Criteria

Step 6 - Students submit all applications to Placement Program team.

Step 7 - Placement Program Team forward applications to host organisations.

Step 8 - Selected applicants are invited to interviews by the host organisations.

Step 9 - Successful applicants discuss the timeline for their placement with their placement providers and accept and sign the student placement agreement.

Step 10 - Enrolment in ICT Placement Program is processed.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • have completed at least 8 units (undergraduate and postgraduate respectively).
  • have achieved a credit (CR) grade or above in a minimum of 4 units.
  • have space in their degree to undertake a Placement Program unit.
  • be offered a placement with a host organisation after interview.
  • Successful applicants must complete the COSE Safe to Practice Declaration (DOCX 45.0 KB). You should scan the signed document and submit it to ict.wil@utas.edu.au
