Parking precincts

Parking at University-operated facilities

Parking zones are indicated by signs, and parking bays are marked with coloured on-ground markers, according to the following system:

Timed, paid parking

  • Indicated by: Blue on-ground markers and 'Voucher Parking' signage
  • Offered across main campuses
  • Payment must be made via EasyPark or a ticket purchased and displayed on your dashboard.

Student permit zones

  • Indicated by: Red on-ground markers and 'Student Permit' signage
  • Dedicated student permit zones are located at the Sandy Bay and Newnham campuses
  • Enrolled students meeting the eligibility criteria may apply for an ePermit via the University online digital permit management system.

Staff permit zones

Residential permit zones

  • Indicated by: Green on-ground markers and 'Resident Permit' signage
  • Located on the Sandy Bay, Newnham, Inveresk and West Park campuses. You must display a resident permit to park in resident parking areas
  • Resident permit holders are also entitled to park in student parking zones on campus (red on-ground markers)
  • Contact Accommodation Services for information on the pricing and eligibility for resident parking permits.

Infringements can and will be issued for vehicles parked outside designated areas, without a valid voucher or permit, or contravening the University By-Laws.

Some spaces are reserved for specific uses such as commercial vehicles, disability access parking, University service vehicle or School vehicle parking and are not available for general parking at certain, or all, times of the day.

Holders of these permits must note all signs and park accordingly as changes or closure of spaces can happen at any time.

Temporary parking permits may be issued by some Colleges and University departments. Vehicles displaying a temporary permit must ensure they park in the nominated space or zone to avoid receiving an infringement.

Permit areas at some University sites in the Hobart CBD are restricted to staff located at those sites or at nearby CBD locations.

Currently, restrictions apply at the College of the Arts in Hunter Street, Websters carpark in Melville Street, the Medical Science Precinct on Liverpool Street, and IMAS on Castray Esplanade. Special permits govern parking in these areas, and standard staff permits are not valid.
