Henty House hosts next chapter of University presence in Launceston’s CBD

The Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE) has taken up residence inside an historic Launceston landmark located in the heart of the CBD.

Henty House is now home to the University’s Northern-based business programs, helping accommodate physical-distancing requirements and an exciting time of growth.

The move is enabling face-to-face teaching of the school’s courses to safely resume, while ensuring students stay closely connected to local industry and the community.

Senior Lecturer in Economics Dr Maria Yanotti said the move from Macquarie House to nearby Henty was an exciting development for the University and wider community.

“The ground floor of Henty House has been transformed into a stimulating, learning and engaging space for the benefit of our students and the broader community,” Dr Yanotti said.

“This new, flexible co-working environment has been purposely designed to reflect the function and feel of a real workplace, providing our students with an experience that prepares them for future employment.

“Our programs have grown, and our continued presence in the CBD will enable ongoing collaboration and engagement opportunities between our students, surrounding local businesses and potential future employers.

“After a year of online learning we are very excited to be welcoming our students back to a new campus, with peer-to-peer connections and face-to-face engagement all part of a vibrant higher education experience.”

To mark the occasion, TSBE is partnering with the World Street Eats community event taking place in Civic Square on Sunday, 14 February between 10am – 2pm.

“We’re inviting everyone to help celebrate the launch of our new campus, tour the spaces, and engage with our staff and students while enjoying a day out and delicious food,” Dr Yanotti said.

“Our school is always very keen to engage and partner with local organisations, and co-hosting this event is a great example of entrepreneurship and business development for our students.”

TSBE Executive Dean Associate Professor Stuart Crispin said continuing to educate and engage students in Launceston’s business district would have far-reaching benefits.

“Embedding our programs in the CBD is enabling students to experience the challenges and opportunities of local businesses first-hand,” Associate Professor Crispin said.

“Once graduated, they will have the skills and knowledge to help build local capacity in the sector, make rich contributions, and solve the issues that matter for our communities.

“Remaining closely connected to Launceston’s business and entrepreneurial centre will also allow us to further our mission of helping forge and support an enterprise ecosystem in our State.”

The Accelerated Bachelor of Business and Masters in Professional Accounting are being delivered at Henty House, with TSBE to also host several industry engagement and networking events, as well as masterclasses, throughout 2021.
