New scholarship to help build our science and technology skills

The University of Tasmania is offering a generous new scholarship program designed to boost the State’s STEM skills and support first-year students enrolling in two of its associate degree programs.

All domestic students enrolling in Associate Degrees in Applied Science and Applied Technologies will be automatically eligible to receive the University’s Science and Technology HECS scholarship.

The scholarship covers 75 per cent of the cost of total tuition fees for the first year of the programs, which are offered at the Cradle Coast, Launceston and Hobart campuses.

University College Chief Executive Lee Whiteley said the aim was to provide meaningful financial assistance to students as they made the transition to study.

“Our Associate Degrees in Applied Science and Applied Technologies have been designed with accessibility and flexibility in mind while responding to strong industry demand for a skilled and qualified workforce,” Mr Whiteley said.

“We understand that the cost of study may be a barrier for prospective students, and we hope this new scholarship program will help open up a pathway for more Tasmanians to develop their skills in the critical STEM sector.”

The Associate Degree in Applied Science offers specialisations in Aquaculture or Fermentation Science and Separation Processes, while the Associate Degree in Applied Technologies provides specialist training in Cyber Security.

Applications close on Sunday 2 February 2020.
