Investment Analysis BEA652

Hobart

Note:

Available in the Master of Finance and MBA (Finance). May be taken as an elective in other postgraduate courses only with permission of the Master of Finance course coordinator.

Introduction

Investment analysis requires skills in both analysing the attributes of individual assets, and in knowing how to combine them effectively into portfolios. In this unit you will consider the attributes of individual asset types: equity, fixed income and corporate debt and important risk categories, including currency risk, counterparty risk and sovereign risk. Modern portfolio management theory is discussed and illustrated, drawing on the global financial crisis for useful examples of managing a portfolio during turbulent times. You will also discuss the role of rating agency and regulation in portfolio management and risk transfer.
