Advancing Transitions to Nursing Practice CNA408



This unit is experiential and practice focussed with an emphasis on development of the registered nurse in contemporary nursing practice. As a Work Integrated Learning unit, Registered Nurses will draw upon their experiences of nursing practice to develop cognitive, technical and communication skills required for working with nursing standards, ensuring quality and safety, establishing a strong work ethic, as well as focussing on consolidating knowledge and skills developed throughout the transition from 'beginning level competence' toward achieving 'proficiency' as a Registered Nurse. Students will develop clinical and professional proficiency for working in Interprofessional teams to provide culturally competent care for nursing people in complex situations. Drawing on a critical analysis of the relevant evidence Registered Nurses enrolled in the unit will undertake contract-based clinical projects to extend and synthesise knowledge and skills as they are applied in practice in the workplace. Reflective reports will support practice, project development and evaluation. Students will also develop their professional practice portfolio and employ critical analytical and reflective abilities to develop their strengths as developing Registered Nurses as they work towards building confidence in the development of their individual professional identities.

This unit acknowledges the clinical work the new RNs are doing and helps them relate it to the professional practice framework to promote their learning and clinical acumen. It is customised to the workplaces they are in and supported through a learning contract, customised clinical project and the practice portfolio.
