This is a core intermediate level unit in the Psychology major
Introduction
This unit introduces students to experimental design, methodology, and data analysis in psychological research. Lectures will present students with a systematic overview of major principles and issues of the scientific method, research design and methodology and hypothesis testing to facilitate planning of independent research and to develop critical evaluation of published research and the validity of research findings. Descriptive and inferential statistics including Chi-square, correlation and regression, t-test and ANOVA will be covered in detail.
The practical component of the unit covers the fundamental principles, application, interpretation and presentation of descriptive and inferential statistics in psychology. Students will use PC-based statistical software packages including SPSS 21.0 and Microsoft Excel.
