Introduction
This foundation unit in Geography and Environmental Studies develops your knowledge of the ways in which people turn space into place, how patterns of landforms, soils, plants and animals form on the surface of the earth, and how cultures, societies and economies manage, and are affected by, ecosystem processes. Workshops, many of which are in the field, will provide you with tools to spatially relate geographic phenomena, describe landforms, soils and vegetation, and undertake value analyses of environmental and cultural issues. Local examples that have wider application will be the focus of workshops. This unit is useful for a wide variety of occupations and professions, as well as enhancing everyday existence.
