Entry requirements

We encourage you to apply for the courses you most want to study. If you’re not eligible to enter your chosen course right now, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best pathway option.

Enquire online for advice on the application process and the available pathways to study at UTAS.

Domestic applicants who have recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. In 2019, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 52.05. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

If you have an ATAR of 50 or above, you will be guaranteed a place in this course.

If you have not completed senior secondary or equivalent studies in Mathematics, you must complete BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods (or an alternative foundation or preparatory unit option) before enrolling in BEA140 Quantitative Methods.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your study plan and subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

All other domestic applicants

To be eligible for an offer, you must:

If you have not completed senior secondary or equivalent studies in Mathematics, you must complete BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods (or an alternative foundation or preparatory unit option) before enrolling in BEA140 Quantitative Methods.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.

We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

Admissions information for international applicants, including English language requirements, is available from the International Future Students site. You can also enquire online to check your eligibility.

If you have not completed senior secondary or equivalent studies in Mathematics, you must complete BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods before enrolling in BEA140 Quantitative Methods.

If you have completed an AQF-recognised Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a business related discipline from an Australian TAFE or other RTO, you may be eligible for advanced standing into the degree. Advanced standing for study already undertaken within another degree at UTAS, or at an Australian or overseas tertiary institution, may also be granted.

Depending on the course of study and the major chosen, you may not be able to use all of the advanced standing for which you are eligible, for example, if advanced standing has been given for unspecified electives but you intend to complete a minor in a second discipline.

For more information, refer to the guidelines for credit for prior study in the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics.

In the case of international students, credit for previous tertiary study will be determined on application and, if granted, included with your offer letter.

International First Year Diploma - Business

Successful completion of this program allows for entry into the Bachelor of Business with 8 units (100 credit points) of advanced standing. Please note that you will complete different units depending on your intended major in the Bachelor of Business and that, if you choose to change your major at later date, you may not receive advanced standing for all of the units completed under the International First Year Diploma - Business.

If you don't have the prerequisites for direct entry into a Business degree, an alternative entry pathway helps you get the qualifications you need to enter the course you want.

One option is to complete an Associate Degree in Applied Business through the University College, which allows students to articulate into business courses with TSBE.

An AQF-recognised Diploma, or an Advanced Diploma in a Business related discipline from an Australian TAFE or other Registered Training Organisation, is another option.

Detailed admissions information and advice for all undergraduate courses, including comprehensive, course-level student profiles, is available from UTAS Admissions.
