Introduction
Managers need an understanding of statistics for four key reasons: To properly present, and describe information. To draw conclusions about large populations based only on information obtained from samples. To obtain reliable forecasts. To improve business processes. These four reasons form the basis of the structure and content of Data and Business Decision Making. The unit focusses on the interpretation and application of the various techniques studied. The use of mathematics and arithmetical calculations are kept to a minimum for selected topics by using the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet package. No pre-requisites. However, it is essential that you have basic knowledge of mathematics at high school level, and basic working knowledge of MS Excel software. If you have any concerns with these skills please contact your lecturer early in the semester.
