Introduction

This unit equips students with an advanced knowledge about the role of food, wine and agritourism as visitor attractions in regional destinations. Food and wine tourism is a rapidly growing sector of tourism, reflecting changing lifestyles and increasing diversification within tourism industries. Food and wine (and other drinks) form integral parts of the visitor experience in many destinations throughout the world, including Tasmania. Together, they form a fundamental aspect of rural tourism. Students will explore the development of the food and wine tourism industries, the concept and size of agritourism, food and wine tourism business development, and broad trends affecting tourism enterprises within this sector.
