Fundamentals of Management XPD507
Introduction
This unit introduces and develops advanced knowledge and skills in the language of business management. It will also critically examine the historical and social contexts of business management developing an investigative insight into the fundamentals of management. Encompassing both leadership and organisation theory, the unit will investigate theories of organizations that consider topics like social responsibility, the business environment, decision making functions of management, strategic planning and implementation, organisational structures and human resource management, motivation, leadership, control, communications, group dynamics, culture, conflict, time management, internationalism and changing trends in management. You will explore management theory and review case studies for the purpose of strengthening the ability to manage business problems through to solutions, and to determine how to create and sustain a workplace where people can succeed (if the people succeed the business will succeed).

- Identify and define management theories, concepts and processes operating in a wide range of contexts;
- Exercise judgement and recommend solutions for complex management issues;
- Communicate written and oral academic arguments supported by appropriate academic literature.
