Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the BMus Year 3 (AQF Level 7) will be able to:
- Demonstrate facility and a broad understanding of a body of knowledge in one or more areas of music through:
- Practical application of specialist music knowledge; and
- Maintaining a creative and/or scholarly practice with some autonomy, and/or in collaboration with others.
- Critically analyse, synthesise and adapt well-developed knowledge and skills, with some intellectual independence, to define and resolve complex problems associated with one or more areas of music.
- Contextualise and clearly articulate a broad understanding of their own and others' artistic practice with well-developed knowledge in some areas by:
- Clearly and coherently communicating through a range of modes, relative to context and audience; and
- Synthesising ideas and practice with reference to past and present musical styles.
- Undertake creative inquiry using appropriate methods to:
- Present new, improvised, interpreted or re-imagined artistic musical works; and/or
- Plan and execute a piece of original music-related scholarship with some independence.

Course structure
The Bachelor of Music will total 300 credit points (equivalent of 24 x 12.5cp units) comprising:
Years 1, 2 and 3
- A Music Practice major equating to 8 units (100cp): 2 introductory (25cp), 2 intermediate (25cp), and 4 advanced units (50cp)
- A Minor: 2 introductory (25cp), 2 intermediate (25cp) units
- Degree Core Knowledge comprising: 2 introductory (25cp), 3 intermediate (37.5cp) and 3 advanced (37.5cp) units
- Experience and Engagement units: 2 introductory Student Elective units (25cp) and 2 introductory, intermediate or advanced level Student Electives (25cp)
Within the above, in Years 1, 2, and 3 students will need to ensure they meet the overall unit level requirements of:
- Introductory level units (100 coded e.g FCA111): 8 minimum and 10 maximum
- Intermediate level units (200 coded e.g FCA211): 6 minimum and 10 maximum
- Advanced level units (300 coded e.g FCA311): 6 minimum and 10 maximum
