The Bachelor of Educational Studies is a three-year course intended to provide an educational qualification for those students wishing to exit from the four-year pre-service teaching degrees, Bachelor of Education (Primary) and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood). The program will be offered internally at Launceston and Cradle Coast campuses, full time or part time, and by distance/on-line Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Coast, Interstate Isolated and Offshore.

Students undertaking the Bachelor of Educational Studies will graduate with a qualification informed by core theoretical knowledge. At the core of the course is a graduate who is educated to:

Career outcomes

Graduates will be highly sought in education careers other than teaching in particular in the industry training sector, and will be suited to communication-based jobs, public relations and other sectors that value graduates with well developed problem-solving, communication and critical thinking skills.

Course structure

The Bachelor of Educational Studies requires the completion of 300 credit points comprising the first 3 years of the course being exited from.

Entry requirements

Normal minimum University admission requirements do not apply for this course. The Bachelor of Educational Studies is an exit award only. As such students will not be admitted directly into the course.

Students exiting with the Bachelor of Educational Studies with previous study from the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and Bachelor of Education (Primary) course at the University of Tasmania will be granted credit in accordance with sections 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 of Rule 3 Rules of Admission and Student Progress.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

International students

2021 Total Course Fee (international students): $96,138 AUD*.

Course cost based on a rate of $30,950 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
