- What is an ATAR
- CRICOS: 0100744
You will gain an awareness of your own creative practice and the role and function of visual art and design within contemporary culture. You can choose from a range of selected units, which will provide a foundation for further study in fine art and/or enable you to encounter and develop skills in diverse art disciplines.
Learning outcomes
- Identify broad theoretical and technical knowledge about the diverse contexts (e.g. social, cultural and historical) that inform all aspects of art practice.
- Demonstrate theoretical, technical and communication skills essential to art practice through the analysis of ideas, artefacts, and knowledge, and the evaluation and application of the critical commentary of others
- Exercise judgement in developing cognitive and technical skills, and provide solutions to sometimes complex problems and to deliver resolved art works.
- Develop a self-defined creative practice and/or inquiry that is autonomous and demonstrates knowledge of professional and safe work practices.
Practical experience
Practice in generous spaces that fuel your imagination; Hobart’s former IXL jam factory and Launceston’s historic Western Railway Yard, in the heart of Tasmania’s creative precincts. Studios are specially designed to foster a variety of skills and specialisations.
Our staff are closely linked with and active in industry, giving students access to real world insights, skills and contacts. Students have a variety of opportunities to build close working relationships with renowned visiting artists, and artists in residence.
Work placement
Students are offered a wide range of opportunities to participate in festivals such as Ten Days on the Island, Junction Arts Festival, The Unconformity and engage with acclaimed artists commissioned by MONA, TMAG, QVMAG, and more. Take a look at just a few highlights of student works at Panopticon III, part of Dark Mofo 2019.
