Due to the circumstances around COVID-19, you will begin your semester 2 studies online in 2020. However, when Government guidelines change, on-campus studies will be reintroduced.

The Bachelor of Arts is your ultimate springboard into a wide range of careers and further study options. Choose from more than 20 online or face-to-face specialisations across the Humanities and Social Sciences or, combine your Arts degree with Law, Fine Arts, Business, Economics, and Science.

This degree is an opportunity to interpret human culture and behaviour, from different perspectives and periods, and to understand your own experience, identity and values.

Opportunities are available to develop language skills in a native-speaking environment with Short Term Overseas Study, cultural or media research overseas, or professional placement opportunities by volunteering in non-government organisations.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts (AQF Level 7) will be able to:

Synthesise perspectives and critically evaluate both broad general and specialist knowledge from disciplines in the Bachelor of Arts to identify and reflect on social, cultural, political, ethical or environmental issues in local, cross-cultural and/or global contexts and their impacts
Communicate independently, by written, oral and technology supported modes, to provide clear, coherent and independent expositions to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Demonstrate judgement in identifying and solving problems with intellectual independence, applying knowledge, analytical and technical skills as a basis for decision-making and planning.
Apply disciplinary knowledge and skills with flexibility and creativity to demonstrate self-management and resilience; accountability and social responsibility whether working independently or in collaboration with others.

Practical experience

Study Overseas

An overseas study program provides you with the opportunity to experience different cultures, study languages, undertake work placement or internships, make new friends and explore the world while receiving credit toward your degree. It provides a 'total immersion' experience in a variety of study areas and locations. You can choose a program length that suits you, from a 2-week fieldtrip, a short-term summer program to a full semester (or two).

Course structure

The following information is for students who commenced their course in 2020. If you started your course in an earlier year, consult the handbook entry for that year for information about your course structure and requirements.

Completion of the Bachelor of Arts requires 300 credit points including:

A major (100 credit points)
A minor (50 credit points) or a second major
up to 150 credit points of Electives
At least 75 credit points completed at Advanced (300) level. This includes units completed within your major.
