Justice Studies Honours will equip you to make a real contribution to contemporary global challenges by giving you an awareness of key aspects of social justice, human rights, international development and peace studies.

If you want to pursue a career in the criminal justice system, honours offers advanced knowledge about crime and justice on both a domestic and international scale, and examines the human rights framework in both a local and global context. You will gain advanced knowledge of the implications of race, disability, gender, youth, and displacement in both the criminal justice and conflict zones settings.

If you are planning a career in the Department of Defence, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Federal Police, AusAid, the United Nations and numerous other Australian and international agencies, honours will allow you to specialise your expertise to aim for the career of your choice.

If you want to pursue an academic pathway, honours provides the opportunity to develop general attitudinal skills relating to social justice, critical awareness, cognitive skills, research methodology, project design and writing skills that will prepare you for a higher research degree.

The Bachelor of Justice Studies with Honours is a unique, interdisciplinary course that brings together research-led teaching excellence in Criminal Justice and Social Justice. It prepares graduates to improve the criminal justice outcomes of offenders, victims, and other criminal justice actors in a broad range of criminal and social justice settings. Upon graduation, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the justice system, including issues such as criminal justice, social justice, human rights, advocacy, conflict resolution, and mediation.

The course is developed within an applied framework that develops and equips graduates with real world problem solving capabilities that they can apply in local, national, and global employment opportunities. Students will be prepared for criminal and social justice workplaces by learning independently and collaboratively about the theoretical, ethical, and practical issues related to crime and justice.

Students will engage with these knowledge’s through analytical and problem-solving tasks that will equip them with high-level oral and written communication and research skills.

Honours extends undergraduate specialisation with a focus on conceptualising and undertaking a research project written-up and shared as a research thesis. Students will gain and apply advanced research and communication skills by designing and carrying out an independent piece of research under supervision. Comprised of specialised core units and a research thesis, honours study offers exciting opportunities for students to develop advanced knowledge in theory and method in order to investigate, analyse and find solutions to a range of wicked problems at local, national and global levels.
