Due to the circumstances around COVID-19, you will begin your studies online. However, when Government guidelines change, on-campus studies will be reintroduced.
In the age of digital disruption and information overload, strategic communication has become pivotal to ensure important messages are reaching the right people.

Ever increasing global connectivity and the rapid advancement of technology mean the way we communicate is evolving. The Graduate Certificate in Strategic Communication will give you the skills and knowledge to embrace these changes, and become an independent and entrepreneurial communicator.

This two-unit course provides a pathway for students from professional backgrounds in science, arts or business to build proficient communication skills. Your studies will cover powerful storytelling techniques and valuable insights into public relations practice, science communication, and the cultural and creative industries.

You'll develop an appreciation for compelling content and the ability to communicate with different audiences across a range of social, environmental, political and business settings. This course will help you to develop advanced analytical skills, professional media-making expertise, and a network of peers to help you make a future that matters.

  1. Critically analyse one or more media texts, practice, industries and audiences from a theoretical perspective, showing awareness of local, global contexts
  2. Communicate effectively and ethically across one or more media platforms, showing advanced abilities in at least one area of media production and/or the ability to communicate scholarly ideas in a meaningful way
  3. Design and produce media content with initiative and judgement to an advanced standard and respond to a changing and dynamic media environment
  4. Evaluate and reflect on one’s professional and research development

Course structure

Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Strategic Communication requires 50 credit points including;

  • a core unit of 25 credit points
  • a specialisation of 25 credit points chosen from;
    1. Science Communication
    2. Arts, Events and Culture
    3. Public Relations

Entry into the Graduate Certificate requires a bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

Students completing the Graduate Certificate in Strategic Communication are eligible to enter the Graduate Diploma or Master's degree with full credit.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
