Global Issues in Second Language Acquisition EDP721
Introduction
In this unit you will be investigating significant issues connected to second language learning. There will be a focus on topics that are of global interest and relevance to teachers of TESOL and how these aspects may be relevant to you in your context. To illustrate issues, examples from overseas practice will be provided as exemplars of implementation for you to reflect upon, interpret, analyse, synthesise and/or evaluate - always in light of your context and within your level of experience and expertise. Theoretical perspectives will be investigated and reflected upon in light of your growing understandings.
You will also complete an investigation into a specific topic that is globally significant, but relevant to you and your professional context.

Learning Outcomes
- Research and evaluate issues relating to second language learning in the global context.
- Communicate theories of language learning and link to pedagogical practices in L2 learning and teaching.
- Analyse, interpret and evaluate contemporary issues and practices relating to global English learning.
- Demonstrate skills by applying concepts to a context reflecting an advanced understanding of contemporary practices within English language learning, teaching and assessment.
