Introduction

This Unit explores a range of approaches to English language learning and teaching including teaching strategies and techniques for teaching reading, writing, speaking and listening. The Unit will also study the nature of the second language teaching methodology in a range of contexts through the identification, description and critique of the underlying principles of TESOL methodology. Topics include the socio-cultural context of second language teaching, focusing on cultural, historical and intergroup issues; different approaches to second language learning and teaching, the planning and evaluation of Units of work, strategies, techniques and resources for learning.
