Introduction
This unit explores the many ways that literature can be utilised within a TESOL context. Literature as a focus for English language teaching will include a range of texts such as poems, novels, non-fiction works, plays and short stories. Multi-modal texts such as film, television series, animation and visual texts will also be considered as texts for English language teaching. Approaches to using literature in a TESOL context will include genre-based, critical, and post-colonial perspectives.

Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate the role that literature can play in English language teaching in specific ESL, EAL and EFL contexts.
- Synthesise your understanding of the complex ways in which second language acquisition and contemporary methodologies for using literature interact through your critical appraisal of current ELT theory.
- Plan and develop detailed classroom materials and resources that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for a specific TESOL context.
- Communicate your understanding of using literature in a TESOL context through your academic writing.
