Introduction

This unit provides an introduction to the concepts and practices involved in taking a Global Education perspective to teaching and learning in contemporary curriculum contexts.

An overview of Global Education will be presented where participants will have an opportunity to examine a range of theories, curriculum frameworks and practices that relate to this area of educational focus. The unit will also assist participants to develop pedagogical understandings and practices about the cross-curriculum perspective of Global Education.

Topic area to be examined may include: globalisation and interdependence; identity and cultural diversity; social justice and human rights; conflict and peace building; sustainable futures; and values education. Participants will examine case studies in these areas, engage with recent curriculum materials and explore how associated concepts can be developed in units for primary and secondary school curricula incorporating the Australian Curriculum.
