Introduction

This unit addresses the need for pedagogical content knowledge in the science disciplines to be an effective science teacher. Three aspects of this developmental process are: 1. experiential learning through hands-on investigations of natural phenomena; 2. theoretical relationships between these phenomena, both quantitative and qualitative, are explored; 3. translating personal understanding into teaching for conceptual understanding. This constructionist approach fosters confidence in understanding how scientific knowledge is generated and explains the natural world.
