Introduction

This unit will give an introduction and overview to contemporary thinking about how to align the learning culture in schools with innovative approaches to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment that empowers children and young adults to be successful 21st century learners. During the unit, participants will critically evaluate competing approaches for teaching 21st century knowledge and skills, and consider the issues and challenges involved in successfully implementing fundamental change in pedagogical assumptions and practice. They will also investigate how teachers and instructional leaders can create and nurture a school-wide professional culture - based on reflective practice, continuous professional learning and professional learning communities - that focuses on improving outcomes for all students as active and successful 21st century learners.
