Inclusivity & Physical Activity ESP307

Introduction

This introductory course in inclusive physical activity prepares pre-service educators to meet the needs of diverse learners by requiring candidates to effectively demonstrate the application of pedagogical strategies to teach individuals with disabilities physical activity, the use of appropriate assessment strategies, and the ability to reflect on practice to improve their professional performance. Students will examine various types of disabilities to learn how to create developmentally appropriate physical education lessons for all of the individuals they may encounter in their professional life.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply knowledge of contemporary pedagogical approaches and legislative requirements when teaching physical education to students with disabilities.
  • differentiate between selected types of disabling conditions, describe ways in which the symptoms hinder a students development and performance of motor skills, and prescribe individually-appropriate physical activity programs for these students.
  • devise an inclusive, community-based physical activity program for all students within a targeted school utilising your digital information and research skills.
