Introduction
The purpose of the unit is to develop musicianship through the study of jazz and contemporary music theory, notation aural skills, and historical and social context.
Students will engage in a variety of activities aimed at contextualising the theoretical and practical aspects of music making. Activities will focus on developing music literacy, harmonic analysis, rhythmic performance and interpretation, contextual awareness, and improvisational/compositional techniques integral to jazz and contemporary music practice.
