Introduction

Music festivals, films and genres such as stadium rock and contemporary circus exemplify how music and the visual combine for spectacular effect. In this unit, through the exploration of a diverse range of contemporary and historical musical works, concepts and processes associated with the notion of spectacle, you will apply new understandings of the relationship between the musical and the visual. You will participate in activities that integrate music-making ideas, reading, writing and discussion, develop skills in contextual enquiry and framing, and develop an exciting project to explore the concept of music and spectacle.
