Introduction

This unit builds on the skills and understanding gained in Contemporary Techniques 2. It is the third in a sequence of units that develop essential musicianship skills through the study of jazz and contemporary music theory, notation, aural skills, and historical and social context. Students will engage in a variety of activities aimed at contextualising the theoretical and practical aspects of music making. Activities will focus on developing music literacy, harmonic analysis, rhythmic performance and interpretation, contextual awareness, and improvisational/compositional techniques integral to jazz and contemporary music practice.
