Introduction

Music Creation 2 is the second of two units exploring the application of theory and contextual study to the creation of new musical work. Music Creation 2 focuses on the creation of new musical work in commercial and broader contexts. The unit employs students’ understanding of theory and contextual study to produce work to a supplied brief. The unit is divided into three sections that each examine different approaches to commercial music from the mid-20th century to today. Students will create three new musical works informed by this study and will independently research one of these approaches in depth.
