Movement for Performers FPB144

Hobart, Launceston

Introduction

This unit introduces you to foundational methods and traditions of movement for the performer. You will learn how to identify your own habits of movement and physical awareness, and test ways your movement practice might evolve through analysing and applying influential movement methodologies and techniques. This unit enables you to reflect on the process of more efficient and flexible movement practices, and to consider how movement practices can enable physical adaptability and sensitivity in performance. You will explore how voice and body are connected through breath, as well as exercises for muscular release and increased kinaesthetic awareness. The unit involves gentle and sustained physical exercises, improvisation, the activation of imagination and play, and the creation of original solo and ensemble non-verbal performance pieces.
