Introduction
Building upon the foundation of FSE111, the specific aspects of practice and process in Animation and Media Installation will be explored in greater depth.
Animation is one of the most intriguing and captivating forms of contemporary art, bringing objects and ideas to life through frame by frame animation and compositing has been made more accessible with advances in digital technology.
Through a series of workshops and experiments you will explore approaches to and the boundaries of animation, before developing your own animation project.
In the final module of Time Based Media 2 you will explore practices which take media beyond the single screen, into physical space and experience. You will explore the practical processes and techniques of media installation through group projects, the strategies of reaction and interaction in media art enabled by physical computing, and an understanding of the range of experiences that installation art provides.
Through this unit you will continue to develop your competency in identifying, experimenting and practicing techniques in order to make your work.
You will continue to build your knowledge of the practices by other artists who engage with Time Based Media, as well as some of the critical discourses related to the medium, and to refine your own critical skills through group critique and discussion.
In undertaking this unit you will build on your acquired skills in previous Time Based Media units to explore sculpture and installation practice through a range of media and techniques, whilst further developing your conceptual approach.
